Prisoner solidarity march held in Damascus Hundreds of Palestinians and Syrians took part in a candlelight march through Damascus on April 21 to express their solidarity with Arab detainees in Israeli prisons. The march was organised by the National Union of Syrian Students and the Prisoners’ Support Committee. The protesters handed over a message to the office of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Damascus calling for the release of the prisoners. Prisoners’ Support Committee Chairman Ali al-Younes said the march came in “support of the steadfastness of detainees in Israeli prisons and to condemn their detention by Israel for more than 25 years,” Syria’s official news agency, SANA, said. Younes also urged the UN Security Council to exert pressure on Israel to release the prisoners. |
