Damascus’ largest mall Damasqino opens

The largest mall in Damascus and second largest in Syria has opened in Kafer Suseh, following the completion of its 70 shops last month.

Damasqino, a 24,000-square-metre enclosed mall anchored around a hypermarket, introduces international brands to Syria for the first time including Nike, Lacoste, Springfield, Lina’s Café, Second Cup and Dr Ocean for Seafood. It also includes a 4,000-square-metre family entertainment centre and a 4D cinema. The mall adjoins the Cham City Centre mall and is managed by Aswaq Syria which also runs Trans Mall in Homs.

“It’s a strength for both malls,” Damasqino assistant marketing manager Anas al-Kharfan said. “I don’t think there will be competition between Damasqino and Cham City Centre as we target different types of customers in terms of age and class.”

Syria’s first shopping mall was opened in 2001. Over the last five years, six other malls have opened around the country, while several others are under construction.
