25 percent salary raise for public sector
President Bashar al-Assad issued legislative decrees number 24 and 25 on May 4 increasing the monthly salaries of state employees and monthly pensions of retired state employees by 25 percent. The decrees aim to make up for the rising prices of food, fuel and other commodities in Syria.

Gas company reports record production for 2008
The Syrian Gas Company (SGC) announced on May 20 that its production for the first quarter of 2008 has exceeded 1.559m cubic metres of raw gas, 975,939 cubic metres of clean gas, 55.188m tonnes of LPG, and 392,000 tonnes of sulphur.
