Flydubai Syria route passenger numbers up 39 percent Passenger numbers on the Syrian-Dubai routes of low-cost carrier Flydubai have increased by 39 percent in the first year of service, Flydubai's CEO Ghaith al-Ghaith said last month. Ghaith made the comments at a ceremony in Damascus on June 14 to celebrate the first anniversary of the Emirati carrier's Damascus-Dubai route. Ghaith added that the company was planning to add Lattakia as a third Syrian destination later this month, in addition to its Damascus and Aleppo routes. "With soon-to-be three operational destinations in Syria, it is a very important market for our continued growth," Ghaith said. On the same day, the airline held a training workshop to familiarise Syrian agents with its new 'm-visa' service. This allows would-be travellers to Dubai to apply online for their visas in advance. Once granted, travellers receive a visa by e-mail and SMS which can then be scanned by immigration authorities at Dubai airport. "The aviation industry is extremely dynamic and Flydubai has thrived in a highly competitive market on account of its innovative services to customers," Ghaith said. "The 'm-visa' service is one such innovative offering and we are proud to have been chosen as the first airline to partner with Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department." Flydubai operates on a no-frills basis and carried 750,000 passengers last year after commencing commercial operations in June 2009. |
