Competition and Antimonopoly Commission meets with French counterparts A delegation from the Syrian Competition and Antimonopoly Commission (SCAC) made a three-day fact-finding visit to the French Competition Commission (FCC) from May 25 to 28. The visit was organised by the Business Environment Simplification Programme, a joint EU-Syrian project being implemented via the Syrian Enterprise and Business Centre (SEBC). French competition officials briefed their Syrian counterparts on aspects such as procedural rules for anti-trust and merger investigations, the legal independence of the body and the role of their own legal services. A press release from the SEBC said Syrian officials were particularly interested in the French experience in introducing greater competition into their economy. "It is essential to benefit from other countries' experience in the area of the regulation of competition which is a relatively new feature in the Syrian economic landscape," SCAC Director-General Anwar Ali said. |
