MTN rolls out 4th generation mobile technology
The company has purchased the new GSM system – technically known as the RBS 6102 base station family – from Swedish company Ericsson, a leading supplier of telecommunications equipment. Initially, the system will start operating in and around the area of Aleppo before reaching coastal and central areas. Installation of the new system is due to start by the end of the month and be completed by the end of the year. The new system is compatible with three types of mobile phone operating systems, over four frequencies. These include Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Long Term Evolution (LTE), the so-called 4th generation of mobile phone technology which will increase the speed and capacity of mobile phone networks. It also uses less power, which benefits the environment. |
