New model Hyundai Sonata launched
February saw the launch of two new car models in Damascus. On February 21, Zeina Trading Company launched the new model Hyundai Sonata at an event at the company’s showroom on the Harasta motorway. The four-door sedan, which starts at SYP 1.2m (USD 26,000), comes with either a 2.l or 2.4 litre engine. Interestingly, there is no ignition key; the car unlocks using a remote control and then the driver simply presses the brake pedal and a start button to get the car going, a feature normally found only in luxury vehicles. Speaking at the event, Hyundai Middle East Head Byun-Tae Shin said Syria was an increasingly important country for the car-maker. “There is a lot of potential here in an emerging market like Syira.” Shin said. “Hyundai is already number one in Syria and the country is our second market in the Middle East. Syria will be a major player.” Hyundai sales grew by 20 percent in Syria last year, a Zeina Trading company representative said. |
