British Council holds ‘English for Fun’ day

The British Council marked its 75th anniversary by hosting an ‘English for Fun’ children’s day in Damascus on July 17.

Hundreds of Syrian families attended the event at Damascus’s Tishreen Park, participating in a musical talent show, English-language communication games and recreational activities.

“The British Council has been working around the world in cultural relations in the arts, in education, in English language for 75 years now – this is an age worth celebrating,” British Council Director Elizabeth White said. “Throughout this year we are holding a number of different seasonally-planned events in honour of the anniversary.”

British Council staff, English language teachers and some 100 Syrian volunteers from local youth groups led the activities. The British Council, in cooperation with local Non-Govermental Organisations (NGOs), also hosted a similar event to celebrate its anniversary in Aleppo’s Mukhtrian School on July 24.
